Summer Coffee Drinks To Try At Home

So, it’s summer. And it’s getting hot outside. You wake up and head to the kitchen and you set out on your usual coffee-making routine. You get that perfect brew and you sit down for your morning sip. But wait! This hot coffee that served you so well through the winter just isn’t cutting it anymore. So what are you going to do about it?

coffee drinks

Like all food and drink, coffee is intimately linked to the seasons. What you drink in July should be different from what you drink in January. And summer means iced coffee season!

For so long people have thought of the home as the place where you make your own hot coffee. Whether it’s pour-over, drip, or French press, that’s been the way we’ve been used to making coffee in our own kitchens. Iced coffee is what you buy at a coffee shop, right?

Wrong! It really doesn’t have to be that way. With a few very simple tricks you can be creating irresistibly delicious summer brews. And as soon as you’ve got the basics down, you can really start having fun. We’re talking about all sorts of different flavor combinations, preparation methods, and textures.

So to get you in the summer mood here is a list of some great summer-inspired coffee drinks, with some detailed recipes to help you along the way. The next time you wake up on that hot summer morning and take that first sip of coffee heaven, it’ll be as refreshing as it is energizing.

Keep-It-Simple Black Iced Coffee

Black Iced Coffee

First up we have a really good starter option. Something simple, crisp, and refreshing.

This is a keep-it-simple black iced coffee. Go about your brewing in the usual way. For this recipe, we recommend a pour-over, something that’s really going to bring out the flavor of your coffee beans. This Equilibrio Blend Brazilian Nicaraguan Coffee will do very well.

We’d recommend collecting your pour-over in a large receptacle. Fill a separate glass with a few cubes of large ice. Then pour the hot coffee over the ice cubes and stir. Keep stirring until your coffee has reached a cool crisp temperature.

Now, all there is left to do is enjoy! This is a really nice option for those getting started on their iced coffee-making adventures. It’s all about the flavor of the coffee. And with the right beans, it’s delicious.

And of course, you can add all sorts of things to spice it up a little. Try adding your favorite dairy-free milk: oat, almond, soy, whatever you prefer. Soon enough this will be one of your favorite summer coffee drinks.

Creamy Oat Iced Coffee

Creamy Oat Iced Coffee

OK, iced coffee drinks can sometimes do with a little ‘creamification’. And this Creamy Oat Iced Coffee is a great example of how tasty a creamy iced coffee can be. And, again, it’s a simple one.

Prepare your pour-over in the usual way. Fill up a glass with ice and pour your hot coffee on top, giving it a good stir.

In a separate cup pour a little oat cream. There are loads of fantastic brands out there. Now give that cream a short whisk. You can either use a conventional whisk for this job (you will need a little elbow grease) or you can get hold of a milk frother, which will do the same job but with less arm ache!

Next, simply pour your whipped oat cream into your iced coffee and you have a comforting combination of coffee and vegan creamy. It’s one of the types of iced coffee drinks we simply can’t get enough of.

Coconut Cream Iced Coffee

Coconut Cream Iced Coffee

This is one of the summer coffee drinks to end all summer coffee drinks!

First up, it’s a good idea to put some coconut milk in your fridge the day before you plan on making this iced coffee recipe. Coconut milk whips up much better when it’s cool, so you’ll want a cool can on hand when you start to brew.

Also, we recommend making a slightly stronger coffee. Maybe you want to use espresso or, alternatively, you could increase your usual pour-over measurements a little. You’re going to be adding thick cream along with your ice, so to counteract that water you’re going to want to bolster your coffee strength just a touch.

We think this medium dark roast La Rotunda Single-Origin Nicaraguan coffee will do well. The darker notes will match really well with all that creamy coconut goodness.

Pour your hot coffee over ice and stir until cooled. In a separate container whip up your coconut milk. For an extra coconut-y kick you might want to add a couple of drops of coconut extract and a little sugar.

Add your coconut cream mixture to your coffee and voila! You have one of the greatest coffee drinks out there (In our humble opinion, of course). For something truly out-there, why not add some salt to your coconut milk before whipping? A salted coconut cream iced coffee? Yes, please.

Buttery Iced Coffee

Buttery Iced Coffee

Here’s something a little different. You’ll need a blender to make this iced coffee recipe, but trust us, if you put in the effort this will be one of your top summer coffee drinks.

First up, brew your coffee. You can use a pour-over, a French press, or even an espresso. Let your mood decide. This Fazenda Sucuri Single-Origin Brazilian Coffee will work fantastically.

Next up, add your freshly brewed coffee to the blender. Now add a tablespoon of butter, a drop of coconut oil, and a little vanilla extract. Close the lid and blend. Keep blending until the mixture is a little frothy, this should take a minute or so. For a plant-based version, omit the butter and use a vegan alternative or some extra coconut oil.

Now pour the drink over ice and you have for yourself some down-right delicious coffee drinks!

Vietnamese Coffee

Vietnamese Coffee

With just two ingredients a Vietnamese Coffee can be yours. Here’s an iced coffee recipe that’s as easy as it is delicious.

First up, brew your coffee. We think a Moka pot is a good way to go for this recipe, though any method will work well. This Blue Mountain + Eldorado Jamaican Brazilian Coffee Blend is great for these kinds of coffee drinks.

Whilst your coffee is brewing, crack open a can of sweetened condensed milk, preferably vegan. Pour about a third of the can out into your glass.

Once the coffee is brewed, pour it into the glass and stir until the two ingredients have mixed well. Allow this mixture to cool a little.

Now pour your coffee over ice, kick back and enjoy this gorgeously sweet iced coffee. Ever wondered how to make a truly tempting iced coffee? This is how.

Sparkling Coffee

Sparkling Coffee

OK, stick with us on this one. It might sound a little odd, but for some reason, it just works. Maybe you’ve got friends over? Well, you could do worse than serving up a round of sparkling coffee drinks.

These will be summer coffee drinks with all the refreshing power of a cold soda.

First up, brew your coffee. We think a French press or pour-over works well. You want to really taste the flavor notes, and you don’t need the strength you get from other preparation methods.

Pour the brew over ice and top the glasses with sparkling water. Adjust the amount of water depending on preference. Some people prefer a splash. Others like it half-and-half. This is an iced coffee recipe that will have your guests coming back for more.

Mint Iced Coffee

Mint Iced Coffee

Nothing says summer like the flavor of mint in your drink. If you are sitting out in the sun enjoying a slow lazy summer’s afternoon, you should always have a cold drink with some fresh mint leaves squeezed between the ice cubes. And coffee drinks are no different. Brew your coffee, pour it over ice, and add some mint.

We recommend giving your mint a ‘slap’ before putting it into your glass. Just lay the mint leaves on the palm of your hand and clap your other hand over the top a few times. This will break down some of the cell walls in the mint and really start releasing that fresh mint flavor.

Lemonade Iced Coffee

Lemonade Iced Coffee

Do you want to go the extra mile when making your summer coffee drinks? Ok. Here’s an iced coffee recipe that’s a real showstopper. It’s Lemonade Iced Coffee. Think of an Arnold Palmer, but with all the rich depth of a coffee.

First up you need to prepare some simple syrup. Bring a pot of water to boil and add sugar in a one-to-one ratio.

Brew your coffee. A French press should work well. Pour the brew over ice and stir. Now add some freshly squeezed lemon juice to your glass along with a couple of tablespoons of the simple syrup. Stir the mixture.

Finish your lemonade iced coffee drinks with a slice of lemon and some fresh mint and you have for yourself some delicious summer coffee drinks. That’s how to make iced coffee the advanced way!

Boozy Iced Coffee

Boozy Iced Coffee

There are coffee drinks, and then there are coffee drinks for adults. When it comes to summer coffee drinks, sometimes you need that little extra kick.

And for when you do, you need to fix up a boozy iced coffee. Maybe it’s just after dinner and you need a little caffeine kick to get you up on the dance floor. Maybe you’re at that afternoon barbeque and you’re ready to kick back and enjoy yourself. And did I hear someone say boozy brunch?

Well, for those times you’ve got a few options! And it’s up to you how you like it. Brew your coffee and pour it over ice. However you want to brew it, that’s the right way to do it.

And then you just pour in your drink of choice. We’d recommend something delicious and creamy. You can’t go wrong with a Kahlua or a Bailey’s. But maybe you want to make that coffee Irish and opt for a whiskey or a bourbon.

Whatever your preference, there is a boozy iced coffee out there for you. An iced coffee recipe with a twist. Our favorite? Get yourself some Frangelico, my friend, and prepare to be blown away by the hazelnutty goodness!

Ice Cream Coffee

Ice Cream Coffee

Well, this iced coffee recipe needs no introduction. Ever thought about bringing two of the best things in the world together into one incredible thing? You’ve got dessert. You’ve got coffee. Now bring them together. And you have ice cream coffee. It doesn’t get much better for that.

Like with all great iced coffee recipes, you can do your own experimentation here, but here are some tips to get you on your way.

Half fill a glass with ice cream. We think vanilla works particularly well, but hey if you go for pistachio or a mint for your iced coffee drinks we won’t mind in the slightest. Salted caramel? You have our full support!

Pour your coffee over the iced cream. Now top your ice cream coffee with a dollop of whipped cream. Oat cream works very well for this, though of course, you can use whichever cream you’d prefer.

You might then want to dust your beautiful summer coffee drinks with a little cocoa powder. I mean come on. When it comes to types of coffee drinks, it doesn’t get more deliciously indulgent than this.
